Wurm climbs to third
After catching limits each of the first two days, pro Mike Wurm managed only three bass each of the last two days. His day-four catch weighed 8 pounds, 10 ounces and pushed his total weight to 46 pounds, 6 ounces. Two of the fish were largemouths – the other a spotted bass. For third place, Wurm earned $30,000.

“Overall, I’m pretty proud of myself,” said the Hot Springs, Ark., native. “I found a real good pattern, and I executed every day. The last two days I think they started moving – probably up the creek. I could have depleted the area too.”

Wurm dragged a small Eakins’ jig with a Zoom Critter Craw on the bottom of the White River. At times he worked the jig so slow he was barely moving it. This was the exact method he used to win the 1999 FLW Tour qualifier on Lake Murray. One of his keys this week was using 10-pound braid with a 10-pound fluorocarbon leader. It helped him pull fish out of the timber and improved his hook-set ratio.

“It was really important to barely move the jig. If you so much as lifted it, that means you were fishing it too fast. You’ve got to remember these fish are cold. And when they’re cold, they don’t want to move very much – just like us.” Complete Story

3rd: Wurm Pleased

Even though Wurm finished 10 pounds in back of Shuffield and 23 1/2 pounds in back of Ehrler, he's happy with a Top 5.

"Actually, I'm very pleased," Wurm said. "I accomplished more than I ever should have with what I found. This is really the first tournament of the year, and to get 3rd place – I'm tickled to death. I'm excited to be back with FLW – it's a totally different feeling and atmosphere (than BASS). I'm glad to be back and I'm looking forward to the rest of the year." Complete Story

Wurm falls to fifth
After demonstrating remarkable consistency each of the first two days, pro Mike Wurm fell back a bit today and caught only three bass for 7 pounds, 9 ounces. With one day remaining, his total weight stands at 37 pounds, 12 ounces.

“I only had three keeper bites today,” said Wurm, who also caught five short fish. “I think they started moving – probably up the creek. I could have depleted the area too.”

Wurm is dragging a small Eakins’ jig with a Zoom Critter Craw on the bottom of the White River in a painfully slow fashion. His area is large and within it he has four different points and banks he focuses on. One of his keys this week has been using 10-pound braid with a 10-pound fluorocarbon leader. It has helped him pull fish out of the timber and has improved his hook-set ratio.

Day four of the FLW Tour event on Table Rock Lake will begin Saturday at 7 a.m. at the Table Rock State Park Marina, located at 380 State Park Marina Road in Branson, Mo. Complete Story

5th: Wurm Gunning For 2nd

"As far as I'm concerned, it's a battle for 2nd," Wurm said. He brought three fish to the scales today for 7-09.

"Brent leads by 14 pounds, and I haven't caught that much weight in any one day, so I don't see how the heck I can do it. Maybe if he stays home I'll have an outside shot." Complete Story

Wurm retains second
In second place is Hot Springs, Ark., pro Mike Wurm, who caught 16 pounds, 14 ounces on day one and 13 pounds, 5 ounces on day two. While Ehrler is fishing for a reaction bite, Wurm is dragging asmall jig on the bottom in a painfully slow fashion. This is the exact method he used to win the 1999 FLW Tour qualifier on Lake Murray.

“Today was almost a carbon copy of yesterday, except that I didn’t get a 6-pound kicker,” said Wurm. “I had my limit of largemouths by 11 a.m., and I made two culls.”

Wurm is running 45 minutes one way to get to his honeyhole. This area is large, and within it he has four different points and banks upon which he focuses. Once he’s there, he pulls out an Eakins’ jig with a Zoom Critter Craw trailer and fishes in approximately 25 to 30 feet.

“I love to throw a finesse jig on a spinning rod, and now I’ve figured out how to make it even better. I’m using 10-pound braid with a 10-pound fluorocarbon leader, and that is the difference. I’m setting the hook quickly, and it’s going directly into the top of their mouth. And the braid helped a lot too with those tree fish. The line does not break near as bad.”

While Ehrler is worried about other anglers encroaching, Wurm has no such problem. He’s boat No. 1 Friday morning, and he runs an Evinrude-powered Ranger boat. Complete Story

2nd: Wurm's Area Still Working
Wurm turned in another solid sack today, but didn't catch a 6-pounder like the day before. He's still cycling through an area with several points and stretches of bank until he gets his limit, and he had it by 11:00 today. After that, he leaves. Complete Story
